A service as a vessel
Podplay is a podcasting platform that offers exclusive and non-exclusive podcasts through their apps.
In a fast paced industry, I have supported Podplay with a visual revamp to make their service modern and act as a vessel towards a better way of promoting content on the platform.
Working in a small and agile team we were able to try out designs in production, and then quickly react once we gathered feedback on the reception from our users. This way of working with tons of small releases allowed us to not be afraid of trying out new ideas.
My role
At Podplay I was the only designer, working with UX, UI and research. I worked closely together with the product owner, lead developer as a trio to conceptualize what Podplay should be as a service.
Focus on content
We designed Podplay to be a vessel, spotlighting content and minimizing its own distinct brand presence. To achieve this, a dynamic system was developed to extracts colors from podcast covers creating an immersive experience.
What's up next?
Allowing the user to curate their queue adds the feeling of a personalised service. We re-used the concept of picking up colors to give a stronger connection to the content.
Follow your favourites
We enhanced visuals and introduced core features to put Podplay up to par with its competitors. User feedback drove the decision to prioritise adding a feed displaying new episodes from followed podcasts.
Given that latest episodes of followed podcasts were highly popular, we made the feed start page on both the web and app, replacing the discovery page.
