Let us choose how we teach our children

Filipstad Tidning publishes an article by Dan Hegelund about homeschooling. Excerpt (translated):

“The most succesful education method of the 21st century’s, ‘the modern home schooling’, is outlawed in the Swedish government’s suggestion for a new school law. This is contrary to the trend in the rest of the democratic world… Home schooling has seen explosive growth in the last 25 years in the western world. In USA the trend is biggest with 1,5 million home schooled children, 3 precent of school children. But it is also common in England, New Zeeland, France, Australia, and in our Nordic neighbour countries…. Sweden wants to forbid home schooling, while other countries – such as Norway and Denmark – have modernized their school laws by talking about educational duty, rather than school duty. Maybe the Swedish Secretary of Education can explain to His Danish collegue, Bertel Haarder, why home schooling isn’t good enough, since Denmark’s Secretary of Education was home schooled himself! Why does Sweden want to break International human rights conventions? Home Schooling is protected by both the European Convetion and the UN Declaration. Let us choose how we want to educate our children!”
