Secretary Clinton praises Seeds during trip to India

NEW YORK | As part of her first trip to India as U.S Secretary of State, Hillary Rodham Clinton praised the work of Seeds of Peace in India, Pakistan and Afghanistan. In a major speech delivered in New Delhi, Secretary Clinton said: “I know that there are Indian and Pakistani members of Seeds of Peace in the audience today who are working to transcend historic divides and begin to plant the seeds, however small, of understanding.”

‘ …. and the more recent Common Word letter which echoed a theme consonant with my first encyclical: the unbreakable bond between love of God and love of neighbor, and the fundamental contradiction of resorting to violence or exclusion in the name of God (cf. Deus Caritas Est, 16)’.

Israeli and Palestinian Seeds meet for the first time since war in Gaza

JERUSALEM | For the first time since violence broke out in January 2009, over 100 young Israeli and Palestinian Seeds came together for a bi-national meeting to discuss the conflict and rebuild what had been lost during the war—namely, trust and a shared commitment to work for peace. The event took place at a school near the town of Netanya on April 3 and 4.

UN proclaims 2009 International Year Of Reconciliation

NEW YORK | The UN General Assembly has proclaimed 2009 the International Year of Reconciliation (A/61/L.22) to recognize that ‘reconciliation processes are particularly necessary and urgent in countries and regions of the world which have suffered, or are suffering, situations of conflict that have affected and divided societies in their various internal, national and international facets.’ This resolution invites international and non-governmental organizations as well as governments to support reconciliation processes among divided societies.
